Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE), no stranger to the IT game, is set to make waves in the realm of generative artificial intelligence tools. The company’s newly introduced cloud service, HPE GreenLake for Large Language Models, is poised to shoulder the hefty computing needs of this budding technology.
A New Player in the AI Cloud Market
This addition to HPE’s repertoire follows the footsteps of existing AI cloud services from tech behemoths such as Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google. But HPE is bringing something fresh to the table. The company has partnered with German AI startup Aleph Alpha, whose large language models specialize in analyzing and generating text based on user prompts.
A Shift in Market Direction
“We have reached a generational market shift in AI that will be as transformational as the web, mobile and cloud,” HPE CEO Antonio Neri announced Tuesday, introducing the new product with a grand statement that could send ripples through the tech world.
HPE’s Transformation Journey
It’s clear that HPE is itching to shake off its reputation as a traditional hardware company. The firm has been pivoting towards expanding its IT services, and it seems to be paying off. Just last month, HPE reported an 18% sales increase in its High-Performance Computing and AI unit, bringing in a cool $840 million for the quarter ended April 30.
Designed with Purpose
HPE’s claim is their new product isn’t just a rehash of general public cloud services. “Uniquely designed to run a large-scale AI training and simulation workload, and at full computing capacity,” the company’s GreenLake service stands out in the increasingly crowded AI cloud market.
