Ah, the ever-escalating battle for fast food supremacy has entered a new arena artificial intelligence. It seems that McDonald’s and Burger King have been playfully poking each other with the help of ChatGPT, each asking the AI questions to establish the iconic status and size of their products. And now, Subway has decided to wade into the fray by asking ChatGPT to compare the answers to its footlong sandwich offering.
So, what’s the verdict from our digital oracle? Well, according to ChatGPT, both the Whopper and Big Mac are “significantly smaller than a footlong sandwich.”Not exactly shocking, but it’s always fun to watch these fast-food giants duke it out in the public eye.
The creative agency behind this AI-driven billboard showdown is none other than Saatchi & Saatchi. Franki Goodwin, chief creative officer at the agency, said, “There’s a lot of chat about ChatGPT and, while we try not to get too caught up in hype trends, we couldn’t resist getting in on this conversation. It’s a big moment for Subway with the launch of the new Series menu, and what can we say ChatGPT says they’re the biggest too.”
The original two billboards, featuring McDonald’s and Burger King’s seemingly endless game of one-upmanship, were placed right next to each other in Brazil and were the work of David Paulo and Galeria.ag.
Kirstey Elston, marketing director at Subway UK and Ireland, chimed in, “If there’s going to be a conversation on iconic sandwiches, Subway will, of course, get involved. What can we say even ChatGPT knows our Footlongs are the biggest and best sandwich out there!”
But do real audiences actually love these ads as much as the industry thinks? Jon Evans, chief customer officer at System1, has his doubts. You can read his thoughts here. And if you’re interested in creative campaigns, check out…
In any case, it’s rather amusing to watch these fast-food giants enlist AI in their ongoing quest for bragging rights. But one has to wonder, with all the advancements in technology and AI capabilities, is this really the best use of artificial intelligence? Then again, who doesn’t love a little fast-food banter to brighten their day?
