Yikes, that image that spread on social media last month that looked like an explosion near the Pentagon? It was bogus. But according to Jeffrey McGregor, the CEO of Truepic, it’s just the beginning of the AI-generated content we’ll see in the future. And it’s not just funny images: “We’re going to see a lot more AI generated content start to surface on social media, and we’re just not prepared for it,”he said.
Truepic has a solution, though: Truepic Lens, a tech that captures data from the image, like when and where it was taken, and applies a digital signature to verify if it’s real or if it’s been manipulated or generated by AI. And folks from NGOs to media companies to insurance firms are taking interest in the tech. No wonder, with the accessibility of AI-powered image generators like Dall-E and Midjourney.
McGregor gets it: “When anything can be faked, everything can be fake,”he said. “Knowing that generative AI has reached this tipping point in quality and accessibility, we need to arm ourselves with the tools to detect fraud and authenticate content.” Time to get prepared, folks. […]
